There are so many amazing things about gardens. Right now ours is producing blueberries, banana peppers, butternut squash, blackberries, green beans, tomatoes and pimento peppers. After investing so much time, care and heart, it left us asking the question, what’s next? So here are some additional sole and composting that can boost up your production.
- Coffee Grounds. After your morning brew, add your grounds to the soil to attract earthworms and better the tilth. Be sure to mix them into the soil and repeat once a month for acid loving plants.
- Hair. Yeah, you heard us right. Hair has an amazing amount of nitrogen. A few pounds of hair contains the same amount of nitrogen as hundreds of pounds of manure. Who knew a summer crew cut could help your sprouts?
- Sawdust. Strawberries lalalove sawdust. It gives them the acidity they crave and keeps the buggers at bay. Be sure to use sawdust from wood that hasn’t been chemically treated.
